You know his songs. Your parents know them. And there is a very good chance their parents know them too. Netflix is turning the life and mythology around Polish rock legend Jan Borysewicz into Less of a Stranger, a new music drama arriving October 7, 2026.

Known in Poland as Mniej obcy, the film is inspired by Borysewicz’s life and memories, tracing the rise of the guitarist who became the leader of Lady Pank — one of Poland’s defining rock bands — while digging into the personal and political cost of building that kind of career in the first place.

Netflix’s setup is pure rock mythology with a very real backbone: a rebellious guitarist obsessed with music, determined to build a band that could stand beside his Western idols, and unwilling to play by somebody else’s rules. That drive takes him from modest beginnings to the top of the Polish rock scene — but fame, family loss, excess and clashes with authority follow close behind.

Mikołaj Bukrewicz makes his big-screen debut as Borysewicz, while Patryk Pietrzak plays Andrzej Mogielnicki, Lady Pank’s co-founder and principal lyricist. The cast also includes Hubert Miłkowski, Krzysztof Oleksyn, Mikołaj Matczak, Marcel Barra, Kinga Preis, Ireneusz Czop, Konrad Kąkol, Mirosław Tomczuk and Maciej Musiałowski.

Director Kristoffer Rus is working from a screenplay by Wiktor Piątkowski and Joanna Kozłowska, with Paprika Studios producing. Borysewicz himself provides the film’s music, while Karim Martusewicz handles the score.

Netflix describes the film as more than a standard cradle-to-stage music biography. The backdrop is a Poland where rock could operate as entertainment, rebellion and a form of personal freedom all at once. That gives the rise of Lady Pank more weight than a simple “band gets famous” arc: the music is tied directly to a generation trying to push against the limits around it.

And this is not a story about a forgotten cult figure being dusted off for streaming. Lady Pank’s catalog has lived across generations, with songs that became part of Poland’s musical vocabulary long after their original releases. That is exactly why the trailer’s opening idea lands: you may not know Jan Borysewicz by name yet, but an entire country has been living with his guitar work for decades.

If the trailer is any indication, Less of a Stranger is aiming for the messier version of the music-biopic formula: ambition without sanding off the ego, triumph without pretending success came free, and rock ’n’ roll treated as something closer to survival than decoration.
