Ben Whishaw slips into Saint Laurent and suddenly looks born for it
Actor turned high-fashion supermodel Ben Whishaw steps into Replica Man Issue 16 — and apparently all anybody needed to do was hand him a full Saint Laurent wardrobe and let the transformation happen.
Lensed by Josh Hight and styled by Ganio, Whishaw wears Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello throughout the editorial, leaning straight into the house’s exaggerated shoulders, high-waisted trousers, glossy shirting and beautifully loose ties.
The clothes are dramatic, but Whishaw never disappears inside them. His wiry frame, long curls and naturally off-center screen presence make the proportions feel less like costume and more like they were waiting for him.

The clothes are oversized, glossy and just strange enough for Whishaw
Vaccarello’s Saint Laurent has spent years playing with elongated proportions and a particular kind of glamorous masculinity — razor-sharp one moment, languid the next. On Whishaw, that language gets even more interesting.
Oversized shirts, structured shoulders, pleated trousers and loosened ties exaggerate his frame instead of trying to correct it. The result feels knowingly elegant, slightly decadent and not remotely interested in conventional leading-man polish.

That is the real charm of the shoot. Whishaw does not suddenly become some anonymous fashion mannequin. He still looks completely like Ben Whishaw — introspective, a little mysterious, a little unruly — only now framed through Vaccarello’s sleek Saint Laurent vocabulary.
The editorial also lands during the press cycle for Peter Hujar’s Day, Ira Sachs’ film in which Whishaw plays photographer Peter Hujar.
