From Excavator Rescue to Official Shop Cat, Sue Got Promoted Fast
Present Day Developments: PHEW! One tiny Ohio kitten went from being trapped inside a piece of heavy machinery to becoming part of thee construction crew.
Workers with River Reach Construction were on a job site in Leavittsburg, Ohio, on July 14 when operating supervisor Chase Guello heard a strange faint sound coming from one of the company’s excavators.
At first it sounded almost like a beep or screech. Then Guello climbed onto the machine, looked down into the engine area and realized the noise was coming from a very small, very furry passenger.

Chase Guello Had to Remove the Excavator’s Skid Plate to Reach Her
Guello crawled underneath the Komatsu excavator and removed its skid plate. Out came a tiny orange kitten.
“Here’s our rescue mission of the day. Normally it’s a piece of equipment, but it’s this little guy,” Guello said in footage River Reach later shared from the rescue.
The crew searched for the kitten’s mother but could not find her, so they got the little survivor somewhere warm and eventually connected her with a kitten foster family where she could recover and get the attention she needed.
Her Name Is Sue — Short for the Komatsu That Nearly Became Her Home
The crew named the kitten Sue, a nod to the Komatsu machine where she was found. And somehow the story got even cuter after that.
Once Sue was healthy, she became part of the River Reach family for real. The company says she will be cared for by shop mechanic Jared and his family while continuing to serve as the crew’s resident “shop cat.”
The internet, naturally, clocked in for duty too. After River Reach posted the rescue, brands began sending Sue gifts — including a kitten-sized safety vest and hard hat. Because apparently even the newest hire has PPE now.

What started as an unexplained noise inside an excavator became a full-on rescue mission, a foster-care stop and eventually one furry permanent addition to the crew.
