A large fish, believed to be a tuna, startled beachgoers after swimming into the shallows at El Ancón beach in Marbella.

Is it a boat? Is it a seal? A dolphin named Flipper?! Nope. One absolutely ginormous fish sent beachgoers scrambling at El Ancón beach in Marbella, Spain, after its large fin appeared in the shallows near swimmers.

Footage from the beach shows the animal moving unusually close to shore as bathers rush away from it. Local reporting identified the fish as believed to be a tuna measuring more than two metres long, while later reports described it as a giant tuna weighing around 295 kg.

The strange scene unfolded near Victor’s Beach on Marbella’s Golden Mile. One swimmer appeared to believe the giant fin belonged to a shark and made a very determined run—or swim—for shore while onlookers followed the chaos from the water’s edge.

Once the animal reached the shallows, it became clear this was not a shark attack at all. Reports said the tuna appeared distressed and injured near its gills, although the exact cause of that injury was not confirmed. Beachgoers later helped guide the fish back toward deeper water.

So yes: panic understandable. Shark? No. Very large tuna making an extremely dramatic entrance? Absolutely.
