During the 2026 Billboard Women in Music Awards live stream on Wednesday night, Teyana Taylor appeared to walk off stage after a teleprompter mishap derailed her acceptance moment for the Visionary Award.
The moment unfolded as music legend Dionne Warwick presented Taylor with the honor during the live ceremony from the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles.

According to INYIM Media’s live viewing of the stream, the teleprompter appeared to show a line indicating that Taylor’s speech had not been provided, reading along the lines of: “Teyana Taylor, we have no script for you.”

As the audience reacted, Taylor read the moment aloud and responded in real time.
“They messed up my mic, my ears…” Taylor said, seemingly referring to earlier technical issues with her microphone and in-ear monitor. She then added: “First my ears, now this. Come on…”

Taylor then quipped, “Everybody exit right,” before walking off stage and not immediately returning during the segment.

The unexpected exit left Dionne Warwick standing on stage. Warwick was then escorted off by her son, who could be heard saying aloud, “I don’t know. See y’all later,” as the moment came to an awkward close.

After a brief moment of confusion, host Keke Palmer returned to the stage and addressed the mishap, joking that they had “done messed up my girl Teyana’s prompter,” adding that the show had been going so well before the unexpected live-TV stumble.
But the moment did not end there.
Teyana Taylor Returns to Accept Her Visionary Award

After several more minutes of awkward time-stretching, Keke Palmer brought Warwick back to the stage, setting up the return as if the icon had something important to say. Warwick, never one to lose the room, appeared to quip that they were back and that Taylor had something to say.
Taylor then returned to the stage, now wearing a hoodie, with her speech finally loaded on the teleprompter. She proceeded to read her remarks and accept the Visionary Award.
The second attempt carried an unexpected layer of warmth. Warwick earlier referred to Taylor as “my girl,” a fitting note considering Taylor is set to portray Warwick in the long-discussed biopic about the music legend. The moment also had the feel of one strong personality giving another strong personality a quick backstage reset — the kind Warwick, after decades in the business, knows a thing or two about.
For Taylor, whose career has moved through music, choreography, film, fashion and visual direction, the Visionary honor made sense. But the moment quickly became less about the planned speech and more about the live-show reality of what happens when the machinery behind the glamour slips out of rhythm.

A teleprompter mistake is one thing. Dionne Warwick turning the room back around is another kind of legend behavior.
