Today’s Tuesday Textures is brought to us by none other than the music master himself, Prince.
A one of one, true past blast. Dig out the Purple One performing his 1984 smasher “Baby I’m a Star”, off the seminal album Purple Rain.
Originally recorded live at First Avenue, Minneapolis (Aug. 3, 1983) with overdubs at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles, the track became a hard-rock, synth-funk staple. It later doubled as the B-side to “Take Me With U” and even popped up in Tim Burton’s Batman (1989) Joker parade scene.
The official video was shot during the Purple Rain Tour at the Capital Centre in Landover, Maryland on Nov. 20, 1984, directed by Paul Becher. Prince and The Revolution tore through the encore before closing with “Purple Rain.”
