Celebrating the 100th Chincoteague Pony Swim in Virginia
The event’s popularity grew thanks to the beloved “Misty of Chincoteague” book series, which began in 1947.
Each year, wild ponies swim from Assateague Island to Chincoteague Island, guided by the legendary “saltwater cowboys” of the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company.
