As you can see above, here is the one and only Miss Harry, posing with her toy doll at the opening of bandmate Chris Stein’s exhibition of photographs on April 4, 1982. The event also marked the launch of Stein’s book, Making Tracks: The Rise of Blondie—a visual and narrative chronicle of the band’s meteoric ascent.

The doll, cheekily titled Debbie in Different Moods, came with three interchangeable heads, each capturing a different facet of Harry’s iconic persona. A playful nod to the many moods and muses of Blondie’s frontwoman, the doll was a standout piece at the exhibition, blending pop culture, punk attitude, and personal flair.

INYIM Did You Know? Debbie Harry: The Untold Layers Behind the Legend

  • Debbie Harry once stole costumes from a Broadway production she worked on as a secretary. She snuck into the wardrobe department and took pieces she later wore on stage with Blondie—blending punk rebellion with theatrical flair.
  • She was briefly in a psychedelic folk band called The Wind in the Willows in the late ’60s. Though the group released one album, Harry later described the sound as “a bit too soft,” foreshadowing her shift toward punk and new wave.
  • Harry posed for Andy Warhol’s Polaroid series, and kept the original prints tucked away for years. She rediscovered them decades later, calling the experience “like finding old ghosts in a drawer.”
  • She was deeply involved in animal rescue, often fostering stray cats and dogs in her New York apartment. While on tour, she would sneak animals into hotels, calling them “her grounding force.”
  • Debbie once performed with a broken rib, sustained during a stage dive gone wrong. Refusing to cancel the show, she said, “Pain is part of the performance sometimes.”
