Millennium Rewind: Britney's Camp Classic Film 'Crossroads,' Circa 2002 Is Returning to Theaters For 2-Day Global Fan Event To Coincide W/ Release Of Her Memoir.

"Britney Spears fans are in for a treat next month: the pop star's 2002 coming-of-age film, Crossroads, is set to hit theaters again, 21 years after its initial release.

On Oct. 23 and Oct. 25, Spears’ supporters will be able to head to theaters globally to view Crossroads. The movie is being re-released as a collaboration between Trafalgar Releasing, Sony Music Entertainment and RCA Records, coinciding with the publication of Spears’ memoir, The Woman in Me, on Oct. 24.

Crossroads centers on the trio of Lucy (Spears), Mimi (Taryn Manning) and Kit (Zoe Saldaña) as they road trip across the U.S. on a journey to discover more about themselves and their friendship. Despite receiving lackluster reviews from critics upon its initial release, Crossroads was a commercial success, with a total gross of $61.1 million at worldwide box offices.

"We are excited to partner with Sony Music and RCA Records to create an opportunity for fans to enjoy this highly sought after film in cinemas, and to rally in support of Britney telling her story in her upcoming memoir release," Marc Allenby, CEO of Trafalgar Releasing, said in an official press release obtained by PEOPLE." - People.com

Reflecting, director Tamra Davis, said the cast and crew "had the best time in the world making this picture and the connection the actresses bring to their performances shows in every frame. The music will undoubtedly have audiences dancing and singing along and I know everyone will have as much fun watching these scenes as we had making them."

Spears’ 2002 project will be re-released in 875 theaters across 24 countries worldwide. At the end of the film, fans will be treated to a bonus sing-along of two Spears songs from Crossroads.

Just ahead of Crossroads hitting theaters, the movie’s soundtrack, Crossroads: Special Edition, will be shared to streaming services on Oct. 20. The soundtrack will contain all of the classic songs from Crossroads that viewers know and love, plus the addition of three new Spears remixes: "Overprotected (Richi Lopez Remix)," "I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman (Snakehips Remix)" and "I Love Rock ‘N Roll (Frank Walker Remix)."

Spears' memoir, due out in just over a month, is being advertised as an "atonishingly moving story about freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith, and hope,” the press release continues." After a bidding war among multiple publishing houses, Gallery Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, acquired the memoir." - People.com
