Between her experimental pop sound and distinct MySpace-era aesthetic, St. Louis-based talent Slayyyter has quickly developed a cult following, with co-signs from the likes of Grimes, Charli XCX and Kim Petras. After teasing a 15-second clip of her latest single “Mine,” fans were quick to splice the bubbly chorus into a plethora of memes.
“Twitter lost its mind,” the singer tells Billboard. “I hope people show the song as much love on Valentine's Day as they did the snippet.” The full version premieres on Billboard below.
Slayyyter first heard the song as a demo. “Robokid played it for me at a session and I fell in love with it,” she explains. “Good Intent wrote the first version I heard and I immediately felt like it was a hit. I got home [and] after putting it off for a while, I finally recorded the vocals for it in my closet 'til like 7 am.”
The singer describes the song as “a bouncy lovey-dovey house track about wanting someone really bad," adding that "it's the perfect soundtrack for drunken sex in the back of an Uber."
Earlier this week, Slayyyter announced a headlining tour this June. She will hit the road with Robokid and Boy Sim.

“NTE” stands for “No Te Equivoques,” or “Don’t Get It Wrong.” Directed by Chris Gregory-Rivera and filmed by Frank Elias on 16mm film, the video was shot at sunset over the waterfront in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. Backed by a full funk band, frontwoman Raquel Berrios sings matter-of-factly in a luxe blond wig and orange shades: “You want more more more more/My dear, you got ahead of yourself/And you keep going going going going/With me you got confused huh huh.”
Primarily comprised of Berrios and Luis Alfredo Del Valle, Buscabulla wrote and recorded the album upon returning to Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. The album title Regresa, which means “return,” speaks to the gravity of their homecoming, as well as the emotional cocktail of heartache and cariño with which they write about their island. Produced by Buscabulla and mixed by Patrick Wimberly (Solange, Blood Orange), Regresa will also feature guest contributions by Helado Negro, as well as Nick Hakim and Nydia Caro.
“The album reflects the joys of being back but it’s also melancholic,” Raquel says. “You can feel like a stranger in your own home because the island is going through very hard, weird times. Most people our age have fled. We have also changed after being away for so long.”
The band will embark on their first-ever North American and European tours following the release of their album. Regresa is now available for pre-order here.
