Way Back Wednesday: “Inspirace” 1948 By Karel Zeman.

Karel Zeman’s 1948 short “Inspirace” turns a glass blower’s daydream into a delicate fantasy of love and living glass, released during his early Zlín Studios period.

Today’s Way Back Wednesday is very much a very merry Christmas Eve to you all.

Themed around the title “Inspirace.” It came out in 1948 by artisan Karel Zeman, the Czech animation pioneer often dubbed the Walt Disney of Eastern Europe (the short was produced at Zlín Film Studios during his early experimental era).

It’s a glass blower imagining that his creations come to life. A story of love contained within a single drop of rain. A voyage into ethereal beauty.

Zeman blended stop‑motion, hand‑crafted puppetry, and delicate glasswork to create one of his earliest signature fantasy pieces—years before Journey to the Beginning of Time and The Fabulous World of Jules Verne cemented his legacy.

What’s your take on Zeman’s dreamy little gem from 1948? Drop your thoughts below and tell us if “Inspirace” still casts its spell on you.
