Dig out thee upcoming documentary, Sly Lives! (aka The Burden of Black Genius), debut its trailer on today! The video showcases the band’s meteoric rise and the cultural impact of its enigmatic frontman Sly Stone.
The film premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival on Thursday and is set to release Feb. 13, on Hulu.
Guests include: Andre 3000, D Angelo, Chaka Khan, Q-Tip, Nile Rogers, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, George Clinton, Clive Davis & more.
The project will also capture “the band’s reign and subsequent fadeout while shedding light on the unseen burden that comes with success for minority artists in America.”
