Rapsody is an American rapper from Snow Hill, North Carolina, whose dense lyricism and introspective writing have made her a defining voice in contemporary hip-hop. After developing through North Carolina’s Jamla Records orbit and working with producer 9th Wonder, she released her debut album, The Idea of Beautiful, in 2012. Her profile expanded through appearances on Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly and the Grammy-nominated album Laila’s Wisdom. Rapsody’s Eve, released in 2019, honored influential Black women through its song-by-song concept. Her 2024 album Please Don’t Cry explored vulnerability and emotional self-examination, while God Gotta Afro & Gold Hoops continued her catalog in 2026. She won her first Grammy for “3:AM,” her collaboration with Erykah Badu.
