Missy Elliott is a Portsmouth, Virginia–born rapper, singer, songwriter and producer whose work helped redirect the sound and visual language of hip-hop, R&B and pop. After writing and producing with Timbaland for artists including Aaliyah, she launched her solo career with 1997’s Supa Dupa Fly and the breakthrough single “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly).” Albums such as Da Real World, Miss E… So Addictive, Under Construction and The Cookbook established her as an inventive vocalist and sharply original hitmaker. Elliott’s catalog includes “Get Ur Freak On,” “Work It,” “Hot Boyz” and “Lose Control,” while her production and songwriting have shaped records by artists including Janet Jackson, Beyoncé, Tweet and Ciara. She was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2019 and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2023.
