Flea is an Australian-born American musician best known as the founding bassist of Red Hot Chili Peppers, whose elastic funk-rock style made him one of modern rock’s most recognizable players. Raised largely in Los Angeles, he began in punk and jazz circles before forming the Chili Peppers in the early 1980s. Beyond the band, Flea has recorded with a wide range of artists, released the Helen Burns EP, and in 2026 stepped forward as a bandleader with Honora, a jazz-minded solo album centered on his first instrument, trumpet.
