Cyndi Lauper

Cyndi Lauper is an American singer-songwriter from Queens, New York, whose solo career began after fronting the band Blue Angel in the late 1970s. She broke through with 1983’s She’s So Unusual, a debut that produced “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” “Time After Time,” “She Bop” and “All Through the Night.” Her catalog spans new wave-informed pop, ballads, standards, blues and country, including True Colors, At Last, Memphis Blues and Detour. Lauper also wrote the music and lyrics for the Broadway musical Kinky Boots, earning the 2013 Tony Award for Best Original Score. Her work as a recording artist, songwriter and performer continues alongside longstanding advocacy for LGBTQ+ youth and women’s rights.
