Biggie Ben Finally Settles That ‘Gone Girl’ Shower Debate
Come here, big boy! Today’s Back To The Future is a full-circle moment because Ben Affleck has finally settled one of those movie debates that somehow refused to die: yes, that now-infamous full-frontal shower moment in Gone Girl was indeed all him.
More than a decade after David Fincher’s deliciously icy 2014 thriller had everybody examining that blink-and-you-miss-it shower scene, Affleck confirmed to Variety that there was no cinematic assist involved.

No Prosthetic. Case Closed.
Asked directly whether he wore a prosthetic during the shower scene with Rosamund Pike, Affleck did not exactly leave much room for interpretation: “I wore no prosthesis.”
He then added that the only prosthetic he has worn in a film was for an entirely different project: Hollywoodland. And that one? A nose.
So there you have it. Biggie Ben Affleck went fully naked — bum-bum and all — and the long-standing fan debate can finally be put to bed.
David Fincher Had His Trust
Affleck also explained that the nudity came down to how much he trusted David Fincher. Looking back on Gone Girl, he described working with Fincher as one of the great privileges of his career and made clear that he was willing to go wherever the director needed him to go — including straight into that shower.
Which brings us right back to why the moment worked in the first place. Gone Girl was already operating in a world of exposure, humiliation, performance and marital warfare, so one quick flash of complete physical vulnerability never felt especially random. Fincher knew exactly what he was doing.
So we say good for ol’ Affleck. And good for director David for making the call. Huzzah-hurrah to both artistic chaps.
