Björk Skips the Front Row and Becomes the Collection Instead

Björk wore a look from Mugler’s new Naturalia X collection on October 4, 2026, the very same day the collection debuted on the runway in Paris. The timing would have been clever enough on its own, but there was one more delicious detail: designer Miguel Castro Freitas had already woven Björk’s influence through the collection itself.

In perhaps the most fashionable scheduling conflict ever, she couldn’t attend the latest Mugler show, one that she influenced, no less. Alas, she was in Bielsko-Biała, Poland, for the opening weekend of her touring exhibition Björk: Ancestress, Sorrowful Soil & Nerve Bloom (remix), performing a special DJ set during Wędrujący Festiwal. So the Icelandic artist did the most Björk thing possible: she wore the collection while the collection was making its Paris debut. Who needs front-row catwalk when you have a Polish market full of ravers?

Björk x Mugler, Naturally

Mugler’s Naturalia X turned nature strange, sensual and slightly extraterrestrial — exactly the territory Björk has occupied for decades.

The collection, titled Naturalia X, is the third and final installment of Castro Freitas’s A Trilogy of Glorified Clichés. Vogue reported that the designer approached nature less as something wholesome and pastoral than something psychedelic, seductive and occasionally threatening — organic lines, insect anatomy, faux-animal markings, feathers and recycled materials all pushed through Mugler’s famously heightened silhouette.

Björk’s own look collapsed several eras of the house into one body. The new-season pieces were paired with an archival fringed feather headpiece from Manfred Thierry Mugler’s spring 1997 haute couture collection, Les Insectes. She described Mugler’s craft to Vogue as “biological sci-fi galore!” — which, frankly, may be the most accurate three-word summary of the Björk/Mugler overlap possible.

Björk’s First Mugler Look in Motion

The first look paired new Mugler with an archival house piece, turning the collection’s nature-meets-extraterrestrial idea into something that felt less like styling and more like a Björk habitat.

Björk’s presence also reached the Paris runway without her physically being there. Thirty-two screens surrounded the Mugler show with remixed imagery from “Possibly Maybe” and “Venus as a Boy,” while composer Teho Teardo reworked existing Björk material into the show score. Castro Freitas told Vogue that her influence was threaded through the collection rather than pinned to one literal look.

That distinction matters. Björk has spent decades resisting the easy “muse” label, and Castro Freitas was careful not to flatten the exchange into one. He called her “far more than a muse”, framing her instead as a symbol of self-expression and freedom. Much more accurate. Designers do not simply put clothes on Björk; once they enter her orbit, the clothes start behaving differently.

Björk’s Second Mugler Look From Wędrujący Festiwal

The second look continued the same conversation between Mugler’s archive, Castro Freitas’s new collection and Björk’s own visual universe.
