Just In, Breaking Fashion: ANREALAGE turns clothing into living “SKIN”
Just In, Breaking Fashion: ANREALAGE sent color-changing clothes down the runway for Spring/Summer 2027, and once again designer Kunihiko Morinaga made the fabric itself part of the spectacle.
Presented in Paris on September 29, 2026, the collection is entitled “SKIN” — a name that gets straight to Morinaga’s idea. If the body is our first skin and clothing our second, what happens when that second skin can rewrite itself while we are still wearing it?
For ANREALAGE, the answer was not simply another print, another textile treatment or another clever light trick. This time, the clothes themselves shifted surface, pattern and color in real time.

“SKIN” Starts With Scales, Then the Clothes Begin to Change
The show began by building its idea the old-fashioned way before the technology took over. Bodysuits and separates were covered in overlapping scale-like forms, while other pieces layered materials including Ultrasuede, washi and sequins into surfaces that looked as though they could peel, shift or regenerate.
That scale motif is the key to the entire collection. Morinaga treated clothing less like a fixed shell and more like something capable of shedding one identity and growing another — a fashion version of skin constantly being renewed.
Then Thousands of E-Ink Scales Started Rewriting the Dresses
The real runway jolt came with a group of sculptural evening dresses covered in thousands of individually controlled electronic-paper scales. Think E Ink — the same broad display family associated with e-readers — translated into an armor-like fashion surface.
That distinction matters. These were not simply dresses being blasted with colored stage lights. The electronic-paper surfaces themselves changed appearance, moving through bursts of pigment, fading toward gray and then reorganizing into new patterns. The garment became the screen without looking like somebody had strapped a screen onto a garment.
For a designer who has already played with UV-reactive clothing, transparency, LEDs and digital camouflage, it felt less like a random fashion-tech stunt and more like the next chapter in a long obsession: how far can a piece of clothing transform before it stops behaving like ordinary clothing at all?

The Firebird Gave “SKIN” Its Rebirth Story
Running underneath all that technology was an older image: the firebird, the mythical creature that burns and returns again. The collection connected that cycle of destruction and rebirth to clothing that can visually shed one surface and become another, with Stravinsky’s The Firebird providing part of the show’s musical framework.
That is where “SKIN” gets more interesting than a simple color-change reveal. Morinaga’s question is really about permanence. A garment can outlive the person who first wears it, while digital identities can change in seconds. ANREALAGE pushed those two realities together and asked whether fashion’s next skin might be something physically worn but visually rewritten again and again.
The finale pushed the point one more time with updated digital-camouflage bodysuits shifting from gray toward fiery flashes — a final phoenix move from a designer who has spent years making clothes react, disappear, illuminate and transform.
And this was not some first-season experiment. “SKIN” marked ANREALAGE’s 25th Paris presentation, giving the technology a little more weight than a one-night runway gimmick. Morinaga has been presenting in Paris since 2014, and by now transformation is less a special effect than part of the label’s actual design language.
