The Spirit Tunnel Went Full Risky Business for Tom Cruise
The crew packed the hallway in black sunglasses and built Cruise’s welcome around “Old Time Rock and Roll”, the Bob Seger track forever tied to his 1983 Risky Business dance scene.
And Cruise did not exactly walk through politely. He danced, spun, leaned into the chaos and dusted off just enough of that old-school Risky Business energy to send the hallway into overdrive. The show has welcomed plenty of major names through the tunnel, but this one had the staff packed in tight for a guest who has spent four decades being one of Hollywood’s most recognizable movie stars.
Later, Cruise said he remembers shooting Risky Business down to the frames, making the hallway tribute a particularly ridiculous full-circle moment. Skyscraper? Fine. Motorcycle jump? Sure. A corridor full of Jennifer Hudson’s staff singing directly at you? Apparently that is where the nerves show up.
The Spirit Tunnel Has Become Its Own Celebrity Test
What started as the Jennifer Hudson Show team hyping one another up before tapings has grown into one of daytime TV’s most recognizable bits. Guests get a custom chant or song from the staff before walking onto the stage, and the results range from smooth and fully committed to wonderfully awkward.
The bit became enough of a social-media fixture to win the show a 2025 Webby People’s Voice Award for Social Video — Short Form. Cruise’s version leaned directly into one of the most famous scenes of his career, which is probably why it worked so well: everybody in that hallway knew the assignment before he even appeared.
Cruise Was There to Talk Digger — But the Tunnel Stole the Entrance
