The renewal follows a first season that Netflix says debuted at No. 1 on its Global Top 10, reached the Top 10 in 88 countries and pulled in 43 million views in seven weeks. The series also landed 21 Emmy nominations, with Matthew Rhys winning Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.
For Gordon, the return only made sense if the team could find a story worthy of the first season. In Netflix’s announcement, he said they had always promised themselves they would only do another chapter if they found the right reason to come back — and now, apparently, they have.
That means Danes’ Aggie Wiggs gets another round after surviving the psychological maze of Season 1, while the creative team shifts The Beast in Me from one-and-done mystery into something with a longer runway.
The new season is also the first project under Gordon’s new exclusive creative partnership with Netflix. Danes, Gordon, Pearle, Antonio Campos, Caroline Baron, Amy Lippman, Gabe Rotter, Conan O’Brien, David Kissinger, Jeff Ross and Jodie Foster are all returning as executive producers.
No Season 2 premiere date or full cast has been announced yet, but Netflix has confirmed the core fact that matters most: The Beast in Me is officially coming back.
