Ashley Padilla Brings Impressions, Chaos and a Very Good Hang

SNL member Ashley Padilla takes a seat on the Golden Globe-winning Good Hang with Amy Poehler — and the conversation gets exactly as wonderfully specific as you would hope.

Padilla brings out her stellar impressions, tells the story of hiding from the cops in a rose bush, gets into the very unusual road that led her to comedy, and circles back to one of the most fascinating jobs on her résumé: working for Diane Keaton and eventually running the late icon’s Instagram.

Padilla has spoken openly about how much that relationship shaped her. She described Keaton as someone who knew exactly what she wanted and had a completely clear point of view — a pretty major thing to absorb when you are young, trying to figure out your own voice and wondering whether any of this creative-life business is going to work out.

Amy Poehler Already Knows What Ashley Can Do

The pairing also has a little extra SNL history baked into it. Poehler returned to host the show’s 50th-anniversary episode in October 2025, and Padilla was right there in the ensemble. By then, the younger performer was already beginning to separate herself through characters that feel unusually lived-in rather than built around one loud joke.

Even fellow cast member Sarah Sherman singled Padilla out during her own Good Hang appearance earlier this year, praising the way every Ashley character seems to have an internal world and a clear motivation before the jokes even arrive. That is a very specific compliment coming from another sketch performer — and it explains a lot about why Padilla can go broad without making the character feel hollow.

Then there are the impressions. Padilla has the kind of face and voice that can shift fast, but the fun is not simply in seeing who she can mimic. The better bit is watching her find the tiny behavioral detail that makes the impression click. That is very Groundlings, very SNL and very Ashley.

And Yes, Good Hang Really Is a Golden Globe Winner

Poehler launched Good Hang in 2025 with Paper Kite Productions and The Ringer, basically creating a show built around one very uncomplicated idea: invite interesting people over and talk about what actually makes them laugh. By January 2026, the podcast had won the first-ever Golden Globe for Best Podcast.

That loose format suits Padilla perfectly. The episode can bounce from SNL craft to hiding in shrubbery to Diane Keaton’s Instagram without any of it feeling like somebody is racing through a promo checklist. It is less press-junket interview, more two comedy people realizing they have several increasingly strange things to discuss.
