Dig out FANG NYC’s Spring/Summer 2027 runway show collection. New York-based designer Fang Guo took the label into full sci-fi mode at New York Fashion Week, building the season around the image of a bionic dancer and the evolving relationship between the human body, clothing, movement and technology.

The collection pulls especially from Alex Garland’s Ex Machina, using the film’s tension between human and machine — organic versus synthetic — as the backbone for the clothes. Instead of stopping at a futuristic moodboard, Guo pushes that idea directly into construction.

The Bionic Body Takes the Runway

Fang Guo’s Spring/Summer 2027 collection turns anatomy, technology and movement into sculptural knitwear, workwear and the label’s first exploration of tailored suiting.

The human skeleton becomes a recurring blueprint. FANG NYC developed a new knit stitch that contrasts vertical and horizontal ribbing, tracing the body in geometric formations, while plating techniques create dual-tone optical effects. Chunkier rib structures add a more three-dimensional quality, giving pieces raised fronts and concave backs.

But it is not all hard structure. Softer silken and layered knits move against that engineered framework, creating a more romantic side to the same body-machine conversation. Some pieces use a base structure with a semi-attached upper layer, allowing the fabric to move independently instead of sitting flat against the body.

Guo also keeps FANG NYC’s workwear and sportswear language in the mix. Double-knee carpenter shapes appear in substantial twill suiting, while equestrian references are reworked through denim and leather. For Spring/Summer 2027, the label also makes its first real move into tailored suiting, adding blazers and vests to a vocabulary usually better known for statement knitwear.

That push and pull is what gives the collection its identity: industrial but sensual, futuristic but rooted in the anatomy already underneath the clothes. The bionic body is not treated like costume. It becomes a way of looking at proportion, structure and movement through a FANG NYC lens.

For a label that has always played with the space between masculine and feminine, this season adds another tension to the pile: human and machine. And somehow, Fang Guo makes both feel like they belong in the same body.
