WHY IT CAUGHT OUR EAR
“RECESS” takes the simple childhood obsession of watching the clock and turns it into two minutes of twitchy electronic release. Vocalist Blair Tramel has cited Lil Mama’s “Lip Gloss” as an energy reference, and you can hear that playful snap in a track that steps outside Snõõper’s usual punk attack without losing any of the band’s nervous momentum. Even the video, filmed inside an abandoned high school during demolition, feels like the perfect setting for a song desperate to get out.

WHY IT CAUGHT OUR EAR
Gary Lightbody originally wrote “These Alarms” with Kylie in mind, and the finished record makes that intention obvious without turning her into decoration. Snow Patrol bring the widescreen ache, Kylie answers with that unmistakably clear tone, and together they give the song’s plea for something true a genuine push and pull. The fact that the band held the track back rather than release it without her was the right call—the duet is the point.
