Harry Ash Brings the Cheek — Then Knows When to Pull Back

We adore us some Harry Ash. The Mates Model Management face steps in front of photographer Pat Supsiri for a new MMSCENE exclusive — and the accompanying interview makes clear there is more going on here than simply knowing where the camera is.

Ash tells MMSCENE that modeling was something he more or less fell into after people repeatedly suggested he give it a try. Once he began shooting and realized what could come from it, curiosity turned into a proper obsession with getting better.

One of the biggest lessons? Doing less can actually do more. Ash says he initially overthought everything — hands, face, pose, whether the image was working — before learning to trust the photographer and stop forcing every frame.

That restraint does not mean disappearing. Asked what feels distinctly his on set, Ash points to his personality and energy: cheeky, relaxed and not especially interested in taking himself too seriously — until it is time to switch on and bring some attitude into the image.

His off-duty taste follows a similar less-is-more instinct. Think simple silhouettes punctuated by one or two stronger pieces, with vintage, good denim, leather jackets and fitted basics in regular rotation. Visually, he says he is drawn toward fashion imagery, campaigns and films that feel darker, rawer and authentic rather than overly polished.

And modeling is not necessarily the end point. Ash wants to understand more of what happens around the person in front of the lens — particularly creative direction, styling and building a complete campaign or concept. Long term, he sees modeling as both a career and an entry into the wider creative industry.
