Four Legends Are Taking Sisterhood Straight To The Hamptons
Get ready for four living legends to pack their bags, gather the receipts and take sisterhood straight to the Hamptons. Whoopi Goldberg, Jenifer Lewis, Vanessa Williams and Vivica A. Fox are set to star together in Netflix’s upcoming ensemble comedy Women Like Us.
The project comes from Higher Ground, the media company founded by Barack and Michelle Obama, and Charles D. King’s MACRO Film Studios. The combination puts four commanding performers at the center of a story built around grief, marriage, longtime friendship and the dreams women are too often told should have an expiration date.

A 30th Anniversary Trip Becomes Something Much Bigger
Women Like Us follows a recently widowed woman who is pulled away to the Hamptons by her lifelong best friends and sister during what should have been her 30th wedding anniversary.
What begins as an attempted escape becomes a reckoning—with grief, with marriage, with the choices each woman has made and with the sisterhood that has carried them through the years.
The emotional center is not simply starting over. It is the realization that a life can change shape without becoming smaller, and that dreams do not suddenly become invalid because a woman has reached a certain age.
Whoopi Goldberg And Jenifer Lewis Are Finally Back Together
The casting also reunites Whoopi Goldberg and Jenifer Lewis, two performers whose shared screen history includes Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, Corrina, Corrina and Jackie’s Back!
Their first film together in nearly three decades already gives the project an extra spark. Goldberg can move from dry restraint to emotional force without warning, while Lewis has made an art form out of arriving with the truth at full volume.
Add Vanessa Williams and Vivica A. Fox, and subtlety is no longer the only available setting. Williams brings polish, comic timing and decades of screen authority. Fox brings heat, confidence and the ability to turn a single reaction into an entire scene.
Tasha Smith Is Directing The Hamptons Getaway
Tasha Smith will direct Women Like Us. Her work behind the camera includes television projects such as Bel-Air, BMF, P-Valley and Harlem, where she previously directed Goldberg.
The original screenplay was written by Ali Kinney and later revised by Tracy Oliver, whose writing and producing work includes Girls Trip, Harlem and The Blackening.
That creative team suggests a film interested in more than placing four famous women inside a luxury vacation home. The comedy can be broad, but the premise also leaves room for sharp conversations about widowhood, friendship, regret, reinvention and the quiet ways women keep one another standing.
Higher Ground And MACRO Put Black Women At The Center
The film marks a collaboration between Higher Ground and MACRO Film Studios, two companies with established commitments to stories that place underrepresented voices at the center rather than around the edges.
That matters here because the cast itself is the event. Goldberg, Lewis, Williams and Fox have each spent decades carrying films, television series, stages and entire cultural moments. Women Like Us does not position them as somebody else’s mothers, bosses or supporting aunties. They are the story.
Production is expected to begin in New York City in fall 2026. Netflix has not yet announced a release date.
Until then, the promise is already strong: four legends, one Hamptons weekend and enough life experience to turn a getaway into a full emotional audit.
