Mark your calendars on us: ten years after transforming the Coachella main stage into something closer to performance art, Sia is bringing that visual universe into movie theaters with Sia: Nostalgic for the Present.

The limited theatrical event, presented by Trafalgar Releasing, is a remastered cinematic presentation of Sia’s landmark 2016 Coachella set and the world-tour spectacle it inspired. Translation: the wig, the voice, the dancers, the giant-screen emotional architecture — all of it getting the big-screen treatment.

Sia: Nostalgic for the Present begins a limited cinema run on July 23 in select theaters, turning what was once a festival-stage disruption into a communal, sit-down-and-take-it-in movie event.

Directed by Sia and Daniel Askill, the film stars Maddie Ziegler, Kristen Wiig, Paul Dano, Ben Mendelsohn, Gaby Hoffmann and Tig Notaro, with choreography by Ryan Heffington. That roster alone explains why the 2016 performance felt less like a standard concert and more like a series of cinematic body-language transmissions.

Sia’s Nostalgic for the Present era was always a strange and thrilling pop paradox. She stood back while the images moved forward, letting dancers and actors carry the visual drama as her voice cut through from behind the veil. It was pop, theater, video art and emotional weather system all happening at once.

Part of the power of the original 2016 Coachella set was how deliberately untraditional it felt. Instead of chasing a typical festival-headliner format, Sia built a world of prerecorded visuals, live movement, famous faces and tightly choreographed emotional shocks. In that sense, bringing it to cinemas feels less like a rerun and more like the format finally catching up with the idea.

Press play on the official trailer below. The sneak peek makes the case clearly: this is not simply a concert film. It is Sia’s performance-art pop machine, remastered and reframed for anyone who wants to experience that 2016 spectacle at full theatrical scale.
