De La Soul Transcends On “Tiny Desk Concert”

De La Soul bring humor, legacy, and pure hip‑hop energy to NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert, with Maseo and Posdnuos performing a stacked set of classics and new gems including “Stakes Is High,” “Breakadawn,” and “Me Myself and I.”

The group that is De La Soul are pioneering hip‑hop superstars — that much we’ve known for the past four decades. But in true De La fashion, DJ Maseo (Vincent Mason) and Posdnuos (Kelvin Mercer) kicked off their Tiny Desk set with playful mischief, declaring to viewers: “Ladies and gentlemen, we’re a new group called De La Soul.” All humor, all silliness, all heart — exactly the energy that’s made them beloved since day one.

And with that, without further ado, the living legends launched into a stacked performance blending classics, deep cuts, and fresh gems. Their presence filled the room with warmth, gratitude, and that unmistakable De La Soul spirit — the same spirit that helped shape alternative hip‑hop as we know it.
