Zephyring 5 Decades… A One of One, Maverick Super Wonder. Happy 50th Birthday, Grey Gardens!

Join the Criterion Channel in celebrating the 50th anniversary of Grey Gardens, the iconic 1975 documentary by Albert and David Maysles, Ellen Hovde, and Muffie Meyer.

Remembering Big and Little Edie Beale: the eccentric mother-and-daughter duo, reclusive relatives of Jackie Onassis, who are the subjects of this touching, funny, timeless portrait.

The Paris Theater, in collaboration with the Maysles Documentary Center, is thrilled to present a special 50th Anniversary screening of Albert and David Maysles’ landmark documentary. The film, which premiered at the Paris Theater fifty years ago, will be introduced by actress, model, and author Julia Fox (Uncut Gems, Night Always Comes), designer Alexis Bittar, and Rebekah Maysles. The screening takes place at 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 5 at the Paris Theater.

Grey Gardens introduced the world to Big and Little Edie Beale: mother and daughter, high-society dropouts, and reclusive cousins of Jackie Onassis. The two manage to thrive together amid the decay and disorder of their East Hampton, New York mansion—an eerily ramshackle echo of the American Camelot. An impossibly intimate portrait, this 1976 documentary quickly became a cult classic, establishing Little Edie as a fashion icon and philosopher queen.
