Derek Hough Declares Robert Irwin’s “Best First Dance” in ‘Dancing with the Stars’ History & We Concur!

Season 34 Premiere came and went yesterday, but it was the closing performance from INYIM Media regular face Robert Irwin that truly stole the spotlight.

Judge Derek Hough didn’t hold back, declaring Robert’s debut “the best first dance in Dancing With the Stars history”. That’s right—Robbie came in hot with a high-energy jive to Steppenwolf’s “Born to Be Wild,” alongside pro partner Witney Carson, rocking his signature khaki pants and leaping off a car like a true wild child.

So let’s not waste any time. Gander at our screen grabs and scope out Robbie’s firm dance moves, booty butt twirls, and all the razzle-dazzle you didn’t know you needed.

On a quick sidenote: Carrie Ann Inaba was MIA due to feeling under the weather. No guest judge stepped in, leaving only Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough to hold down the judging fort.

Robert and Witney tied for the highest score of the night—15 out of 20—alongside Whitney Leavitt and Mark Ballas. Not bad for a guy who once said, “Crocs are my comfort zone, dancing is not”.

Now, press play and catch jumpin’ rob flash below!

Catch Dancing With the Stars LIVE Tuesdays at 8/7c on ABC and Disney+, with next-day streaming on Hulu. For more on the show, visit the official DWTS page on ABC.

We’re still twirling from that performance 💃🕺. Did Robert Irwin live up to the Irwin legacy? Drop your thoughts, favorite moves, or wild predictions in the comments. Let’s dance it out, INYIM style.
