BREAKING NEWS! David Johansen lead singer of the seminal proto-punk band the New York Dolls has died.
Johansen died Friday “in the sunlight surrounded by music and flowers” at his home in Staten Island, his family announced.
His stepdaughter, Leah Hennessy, disclosed on February 10 that Johansen had been courageously fighting Stage 4 cancer for ten years. In addition to this battle, he faced a brain tumor and suffered a broken back from a fall shortly after Thanksgiving.
