Jil Sander Turns Spring/Summer 2012 Into a Hitchcockian Fashion Thriller

Photographer Willy Vanderperre and stylist Olivier Rizzo collaborate on the brilliantly Hitchcockian Jil Sander Spring/Summer 2012 ad campaign, bringing suspense, shadow and just enough fashion-film unease to the house’s clean-lined world.
The cast is stacked: Clément Chabernaud, Daria Strokous and Natasha Poly move through Vanderperre’s dark, cinematic frames, where cracked glass, staircases and dramatic lighting turn polished campaign imagery into something closer to a stylish little thriller.
It is a sharp contrast to the bright, pristine Spring/Summer 2012 runway collection itself. Under Raf Simons’ creative and art direction, Jil Sander keeps the clothes precise while letting the campaign go moody, strange and beautifully tense.

Willy Vanderperre Brings the Suspense
The Hitchcock influence is impossible to miss. Shadows cut across faces, broken glass becomes part of the composition and the models look less like they are simply posing for an ad than stepping into the middle of a scene where something has just happened — or is about to.
That tension gives the campaign its kick. Jil Sander’s minimalism stays intact, but Vanderperre pushes it somewhere more cinematic without burying the clothes underneath the concept.
Raf Simons Keeps the Fashion Razor Sharp
Olivier Rizzo styles the campaign under Simons’ direction, with Anthony Turner on hair and Peter Philips handling makeup. The result is controlled from top to bottom: clean silhouettes, immaculate faces and a visual world that feels polished enough to be Jil Sander while still carrying a little menace.
With Chabernaud alongside Strokous and Poly, the casting fits the mood perfectly — cool, severe and just detached enough to keep the mystery going.
