Steven Klein Gives EY! Magateen’s NYC Issue a Charged Double Act
Jeremy Matos and Tyler Maher get the Steven Klein treatment for EY! Magateen’s Spring/Summer 2014 issue, and the result is exactly as charged as that sentence suggests.
The NYC-themed issue was photographed by Steven Klein and styled by Nicola Formichetti, with creative direction by Luis Venegas and casting by Douglas Perrett. Models.com credits both Matos and Maher among the issue’s featured cast, which also included Alexander Barna, Bobby Rake, Liam Dean, Matt Ardell and Matthew Logos.

EY! Magateen’s New York Issue Goes Full Steven Klein
Sharp casting, hard-edged styling and a distinctly downtown mood made the Spring/Summer 2014 issue one of EY! Magateen’s most memorable fashion moments.

The ninth issue of EY! Magateen was built as a New York City celebration, and Klein was a natural fit for that assignment. His fashion work has always known how to make glamour feel a little dangerous, while Formichetti’s styling sharpened the whole thing into something more club-kid, downtown and deliberately provocative.
That tension is especially effective with Matos and Maher. Rather than playing the editorial as polished catalog fare, the images lean into attitude and physicality. There is still fashion at the center of the frame, but the energy feels less like a showroom and more like something caught after-hours.
The wider issue itself was a full production. Contemporary coverage described it as a 160-page release with gatefold posters and postcards, while Models.com lists the Spring/Summer 2014 cover and editorial credits under Klein, Formichetti and Perrett. It was very much an EY! moment: limited-run, playful, knowingly excessive and obsessed with the idea of youthful New York energy.

Looking at the images now, the editorial still reads immediately as Klein. The contrast, the tension and the refusal to make the models feel overly approachable are all there. It is less interested in making everyone look “nice” than in making the frame feel alive.
For Maher, the shoot also landed during a busy 2014 stretch that included other fashion work around the same season. But this EY! appearance stands out because the entire issue was so specifically built around New York youth culture, and because Klein and Formichetti were such a potent pairing for that theme.
And for a small independent title like EY! Magateen, bringing together Steven Klein, Nicola Formichetti and a large cast of rising male models gave the issue a scale that punched well above its limited print run.
