Cyndi Lauper NEW Documentary In The Works Via Sony Music Entertainment: “But as it turns out, her story is one of hard knocks, hard work, and dogged determination.”"Cyndi Lauper‘s true colors will shine in the newly announced Let the Canary Sing, a career-spanning documentary that will take a look at the ’80s pop queen. The documentary will explore Lauper’s childhood, fame, support for feminist movements, style evolution, the success of her 1983 debut, She’s So Unusual, and of course, the stories behind blockbuster hits like “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and “True Colors.” It is currently in production by Sony Music Entertainment’s Premium Content Division.“Like many people, I assumed when Cyndi Lauper burst onto the music scene in the early Eighties, that she was another young star experiencing a meteoric rise to fame and success thanks to MTV,” director Alison Ellwood said in a statement.“But as it turns out, her story is one of hard knocks, hard work, and dogged determination. Cyndi wanted her voice not just to be listened to, but a voice to be heard. The documentary will be a full portrait of Cyndi Lauper — her ‘True Colors’ shining through.”Lauper and Blue Angel went to court against former manager Steve Massarsky back in 1980, when he sued the band and Lauper then filed for bankruptcy. After the case was finalized in 1984, Lauper told Rolling Stone that the judge exclaimed: “Let the canary sing!” Now it all makes sense, right?
