Jill Sobule, the iconic singer known for her ’90s hit “Supermodel” from the movie Clueless, has tragically passed away at the age of 66.
Sobule died in a devastating house fire. Fans and the music community are mourning the loss of this talented artist who left an indelible mark on pop culture.
The Denver-born singer’s song “I Kissed a Girl,” off of her 1995 self-titled album, became the first openly LGBTQ-themed song to chart on the Billboard Top 20, while the Clueless soundtrack single “Supermodel” was a fan favorite during its release and remains a Cher Horowitz theme song classic.
John Porter, Jill’s manager, said in a statement that Sobule was “a force of nature and human rights advocate whose music is woven into our culture” and that he hopes her “music, memory, & legacy continue to live on and inspire others.”
“I feel lucky that she was in my life and heartbroken that she has left us far too soon”
