
Fresh faced actress Catherine Laga’aia joins Dwayne Johnson to make a wet splash with the first official trailer for Disney’s live-action feature adaptation of Moana.

Directed by Thomas Kail. We adore us some Moana! So this remake of the original 2016 animated film is really intriguing to us.
Out in theaters July 10, 2026. The trailer includes Laga’aia’s title character strutting the tune “How Far I’ll Go.” An original track featured in the OG movie—which we’ve sung from the top of our lungs plenty of times before.

Rounding out the cast mates are John Tui as Moana’s father, Chief Tui; Frankie Adams as Moana’s mother, Sina; and Rena Owen as Moana’s Gramma Tala.
So get ready to once again experience the brilliant cinematic sights, sounds, and songs of Moana.

The live-action Moana is produced by Walt Disney Studios, with Johnson reprising his role as Maui. Kail, known for directing Hamilton, brings theatrical flair to the project. The film is part of Disney’s ongoing slate of live-action remakes, following The Little Mermaid and Lilo & Stitch. Expect updated visuals, expanded cultural detail, and fresh choreography to match the beloved soundtrack.
Audiences can experience the brilliant cinematic sights, sounds, and songs of Moana in U.S. theaters on July 10, 2026.
