Jimmy Kimmel Spills the Minute-by-Minute Details of When ABC Took Him Off the Air—on His Late-Night Friend Stephen Colbert’s Show.
During this week’s episode, Colbert first asked Kimmel to recall how he initially learned his show was “indefinitely” suspended—an experience Kimmel described as an “emotional roller coaster” and “very strange.”
Jimmy Kimmel Live! has since returned to broadcast as of Sept. 23.
“It was about 3:00. We tape our show at 4:30. I’m in my office, typing away as I usually do. I get a phone call—it’s ABC. They say they want to talk to me. This is unusual,” Kimmel explained.
He continued: “As far as I knew, they didn’t even know I was doing a show previous to this. I have like five people who work in my office with me, so the only private place to go is the bathroom.”
Kimmel also recalled his wife telling him he looked whiter than fellow comedian Jim Gaffigan when he walked out of the meeting. “I thought that it’s over. I was like, I’m never coming back on the air,” he shared.
