INYIM Media Shower Flowers: Musician Ben Gibbard’s: ‘Her Songwriting Has Been Criminally Overlooked’: In Honor Of Yoko Ono’s 89th Birthday Coming February, He Announces Yoko Ono Tribute Album W/ Star Cast Features!

“A new tribute album to Yoko Ono, curated by Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard, has been announced.

The 14-track collection, titled Ocean Child: Songs of Yoko Ono, features newly recorded renditions of songs from throughout Ono’s career by artists including Death Cab, former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne, Sharon Van Etten, The Flaming Lips and Japanese Breakfast, among others.

In a statement, Gibbard says he hopes the project will shed light on Ono’s “criminally overlooked” catalog.

“[Ono] has consistently created melodies as memorable as those of best pop writers,” Gibbard says. “As a lyricist, she has always written with poignance, sophistication and deep introspection.”

He adds, “It is my sincere hope that a new crop of Yoko Ono fans fall in love with her songwriting due in some small part to this album we have put together.”

Ocean Child will be released on Ono’s 89th birthday, February 18. Byrne’s contribution, a cover of “Who Has Seen the Wind?” alongside indie group Yo La Tengo, is available now for digital download.

To accompany the album, Gibbard will be co-hosting a podcast diving deeper into Ono’s music, alongside some of the Ocean Child guest artists. That will premiere February 18, as well.

A portion of proceeds from Ocean Child will be donated to the charity organization WhyHunger.

Here’s the Ocean Child track list:
