At It’s Not You It’s Me Media (INYIM), we’re accountable to our readers and the people we cover. When we get something wrong, we fix it—clearly and quickly.
What We Correct
- Factual errors: Names, dates, roles, credits, numbers, attributions.
- Material omissions: Missing context that changes meaning or accuracy.
- Misleading framing: Headlines or social posts that misstate the substance of the article.
How Corrections Work
- Report received: From readers, sources, or internal review.
- Verification: Editor investigates the claim and underlying sources.
- Resolution:
- Correction: We amend the text and add a note at the end:
“Correction (Month Day, Year): This story previously misstated X. It has been corrected.” - Update: For new, material info:
“Update (Month Day, Year): This story has been updated with Y.” - Clarification: If wording was technically accurate but unclear, we clarify and note it.
- Correction: We amend the text and add a note at the end:
- Versioning: Substantive changes are timestamped.
Social & Syndication
- If an error spread on social media, we post a correction or note on the relevant platform(s) when appropriate.
- Partners who syndicated the piece are notified when material errors are fixed.
Takedowns & Unpublishing
- We correct rather than remove.
- In rare cases—verified hoax, legal obligations, severe privacy risk—senior editors may unpublish, leaving an explanatory note.
