Starring Christian Bale & Jessie Buckley as Frankenstein and His Bridal Creation
Fellow creator and artisan Maggie Gyllenhaal helms this upcoming cinematic reimagining. Her latest directorial effort, The Bride!, unveils a completely transformed Christian Bale and Jessie Buckley as Frankenstein’s monster and his companion—equal parts haunting and human.
The debut trailer reveals a visually rich, emotionally charged world set in 1930s Chicago, where a lonely Frankenstein (Bale) seeks out groundbreaking scientist Dr. Euphronious (played by Annette Bening) to help create a companion. Together, they revive a murdered young woman—and The Bride is born.
What follows is a fever dream of unexpected consequences: Murder. Possession. A wild and radical social-cultural shift. And at the heart of it all—outlaw lovers in a combustible romance that defies convention and ignites rebellion.
This isn’t your grandfather’s Frankenstein. Gyllenhaal’s take is moody, stylish, and deeply human. The film draws inspiration from both Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel and the 1935 classic Bride of Frankenstein, but carves out its own space with a noir-infused aesthetic and a cast that includes Penélope Cruz, Peter Sarsgaard, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Julianne Hough.
Press play on the visual feast and darkly poetic reboot of the forevermore lovable—and maybe just a tad scary—Frankenstein.
