Tis The Seasn!? Breaking News... 'Cookie Monster' Caught Speeding By German Police As Traffic Camera Snaps Proof Of Sesame Street Character.

"A traffic camera in Dortmund, Germany, captured the moment a speeding driver dressed in a Cookie Monster costume barreled down a highway going 60 mph.

The police are now on the hunt for the Sesame Street-loving prankster, who the cops say deliberately sped past the camera, hoping it would take a picture of them wearing the outfit.

The Cookie Monster enthusiast was traveling at 10 mph over the speed limit, flying down the highway at 60 mph in a 50 mph zone. The police said the incident could have quickly turned fatal — not only is speeding in itself inherently dangerous, but traveling at such speeds wearing a costume that obscures an indivi

Police spokesperson Peter Bandermann said in a statement, "The fun of wearing a mask from the Muppet Show can quickly turn serious. It won't help the relatives of a person who has been killed if the person who did it tearfully regrets their mask fun in court."

If the driver is ever caught, they face a fine of €40 for the speeding infraction. The vehicle was found to have been registered to a 57-year-old man from Hagen, but it wasn't immediately clear if he was the driver, The Sun reported.

Traffic lawyer Arndt Kempgens told German publication Bild, "The owner usually has the right to refuse to give evidence. But if he admits to having worn the mask or names the driver, it can be more expensive."

If the man admits to being the driver and wearing the mask, he faces an additional €60 charge — wearing such coverings is illegal when driving in Germany. Altogether, that means the suspect faces a total fine of €100, Kempgens said.

The image of the Cookie Monster driver was taken by a mobile roadside unit in Dortmund, the Daily Mail reported. They were driving an Audi hatchback.

Cookie Monster was created in 1969 for Sesame Street by puppeteer Jim Henson and voiced for years by Frank Oz, who famously also voices Yoda in several installments of the Star Wars franchise.

Dortmund, Germany, where the traffic camera picked up the peculiar sight, is located in the western portion of the country between Düsseldorf and Münster about 85 miles east of the country's border with the Netherlands.

It's known as the home of the Borussia soccer team and also features several museums as well as a popular botanical garden. It boasts a population of just over 587,000 as of 2019 European statistics." - themirror.com/news/world-news/cookie-monster-caught-speeding-german-739244
