Whoo-Hoo! Ashlee Simpson Confirms New Music Is On The Way After Last Release Circa 2008.

"After stepping away from music following her 2008 album Bittersweet World, Ashlee Simpson has confirmed she’s recording new solo material.

Simpson, who is releasing an expanded edition of her debut LP Autobiography on Friday for its 20th anniversary, told Stereogum that she is currently “in the studio making new music.” When asked if it’d be an album, she divulged, “Right now I’m working song by song, and then we’ll see.” She teased, however, that she is “sure it’ll end up turning into an album.”

As for whether it’d have the same pop punk-slanted sound from her previous records, Simpson noted, “I’ve grown up now, so it’s a little more grown, and at the moment, it’s been more with live music, so I feel like the direction can always turn, but I’m really happy with where we’re at right now.” She added that it’s “more of the fun, rocky vibe.”

Speaking on who she would want to collaborate with, the “Pieces of Me” singer shared that she’d be interested in teaming up with classic artists like Alanis Morissette, Fiona Apple and Jewel. “But then right now, I really love Chappell [Roan]. She’s amazing. I really love her whole album [The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess],” she said.

She also addressed her infamous Saturday Night Live lip-sync flub, sharing the silver lining of the embarrassing situation. “There was a lot of backlash, and I think that what I mostly experienced was discovering my strength in myself and also in my fans because they were so loyal to me — the fact that I got to get up, fight and they all watched me do that and come to my shows,” she said.

Simpson had previously told Distractify back in March that her daughter Jagger Snow inspired her to return to music. “[She’s] why I’m really excited to do music again,” she said. “My daughter really wants to sing with me, so I will definitely have her there [in the studio].”

While it’s been 16 years since Simpson last released a solo album, she collaborated with her husband Evan Ross as a duo, releasing an EP in 2018 under the moniker Ashlee + Evan. Its release coincided with their short-lived E! reality series of the same name." - Hollywoodreporter.com
