Sheila E. Spills Prince Actually DID Record Then Deleted “Incredible” Solo Version Of Michael Jackson’s “Bad.”

"A Prince and Michael Jackson collaboration sort of existed once, per Sheila E., but it was scrapped before the King of Pop could even hear it.

During her recent appearance on The Jason Show, the drummer-singer confirmed why the duet never saw the light of day.

“So we get the song ‘Bad‘ from Michael [Jackson] and we’re here at Paisley [Park]. And Prince is like, ‘Wait a minute.’ He said, ‘Michael wants me to sing this song with him.’ So he played it for us. He goes, ‘Your butt is mine…’ He said, ‘What?! Your butt is mine?’ And he just walked away, he said, ‘Uh, uh,'” the 66-year-old began. Prince was referring to the opening line of the record.

Sheila E. then helped Prince re-record “Bad” at his Minnesota studio. She described his solo version as “so funky” and “so amazing,” before noting, “It was an incredible rendition of what it should’ve been.” She continued, “Then after we recorded it, we’re like, ‘Oh my God, we can’t wait for Michael to hear it.'”

The song didn’t even leave the studio. According to her, Prince immediately scrapped the record. “He erased the whole thing. Right there.” However, this was a move that the “Purple Rain” crooner pulled often.

“Oh yeah, it was fun. We did that all the time, though. I can name so many songs that we re-recorded that was sent to us. Ah, that’s another show,” Sheila E. joked. Back in 1997 during a sit-down with Chris Rock, Prince admitted that he was supposed to be featured on “Bad” in 1987, but never detailed what happened.

“Bad” went on to top the charts upon its release on August 31, 1987, landing at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks. The accompanying 18-minute visual was one of Jackson’s longest and was influenced by West Side Story." - Vibe.com
