Actor David Duchovny Spills He Lost Out On All THREE Male Lead Roles On ‘Full House.’
"David Duchovny was looking for his big break in Hollywood when he auditioned for all three of the male lead roles on Full House, but it didn’t go as planned.
The Emmy-nominated actor revealed on Tuesday’s episode of his Lemonada podcast Fail Better that he was once in contention for the roles of Danny Tanner (Bob Saget), Jesse Katsopolis (John Stamos) and Joey Gladstone (Dave Coulier) on the beloved sitcom, which ran for eight seasons from 1987 to 1995.“I auditioned for all three parts on Full House,” he recalled. “At first, they had me for, I think, the dad. And then they had me for the Stamos character. And then they had me for the other guy. I was thinking, ‘I’ve got to get one of these, and it’s going to change my life.'”However, none of the roles panned out for Duchovny. But The X-Files actor noted that he was still pretty fresh in Hollywood when he auditioned.“I had plenty of those pilots that I went up for when I was first out in L.A. and I thought each one was going to be the break,” he explained. “I just needed to be able to pay my rent too. That was an important thing ’cause I just wanted a job.”The Californication actor said he also realized that the style of acting needed in a sitcom wasn’t necessarily what he was looking for at the time.“I was really bad at that kind of stuff,” Duchovny admitted. “I did not know how to do that sitcom stuff. I don’t know what they were thinking, that they thought I was going to exist in that world. I mean, I guess I could have learned, but I wasn’t ready, I wasn’t ready for that kind of, energetic performance that they need.”Duchovny eventually got his break in Hollywood several years later, landing the starring role of Agent Fox Mulder on the hit series The X-Files in 1993. He remained on the show throughout its first nine seasons, as well as reprised his role for a reboot series from 2016 to 2018 and two films." - Hollywoodreporter.com
