Master Of Music, Björk Struts Couture ‘Merkin Dress’ Made From Genuine Human Hair For Vogue Scandinavia.
"Take it from Björk: The bush is back. The Icelandic music icon fronts the April-May issue of Vogue Scandinavia — and for her debut appearance on the fashion bible, she posed what the magazine calls “the year’s most iconic dress.”Comprised of a sheer, nude-hued tulle slip layered atop a waist-cinching corset, silicone hip prosthetics and a merkin (or pubic wig) “fashioned from real human hair painstakingly embroidered to the crotch of an underlaid silk tulle stocking bodysuit,” per the publication, the headline-making look in question hails from John Galliano’s spring 2024 haute couture collection for Maison Margiela. It was first shown on the runway in January to rapturous reviews and much social media chatter, along with several other designs featuring the same fuzzy flourishes.Galliano’s collection was inspired by “the underbelly of Paris,” according to a Maison Margiela press release, as seen in the photographer Brassaï’s voyeuristic portraits of “nighttime revelers” in the French capital. As such, the visionary designer’s buzzy bushes seemed to nod to the sex workers who historically wore merkins to conceal shaving, scarring or signs of disease. While Kendall Jenner became the first celebrity to score one of the looks from Margiela’s much-discussed show for the Vanity Fair Oscar Party earlier this month, Björk earned the distinction of debuting one of Galliano’s haute merkins off the runway — and wrote on Instagram Tuesday that she was “so honoured to have gotten to wear this garment.”The “Hyperballad” singer, who wore Margiela pieces from her own closet for the cover of her first album “Debut” in 1993, told the magazine that she “got super mushy at the fashion shoot.”“When I put on the Margiela dress, and I slipped on the prosthetic hips, it seemed such a full circle moment. It was such a profound thing,” she shared. No hair-splitting here." - Pagesix.com
