We Likey! Colman Domingo To Direct & Star In Nat King Cole Biopic.

"Colman Domingo has another big project in the works.

The acclaimed actor revealed he is both starring in and directing a biopic on Nat King Cole. According to an exclusive Variety report, the film will be a musical from a script co-written by Domingo. It will also serve as his directorial debut.

“I’ve been working on it quietly for a few years,” he explained. “It’s something I’m looking forward to putting together with some great partners.”

As noted by the outlet, Domingo previously co-wrote the play Lights Out: Nat ‘King’ Cole with Patricia McGregor, which premiered at the Geffen Playhouse.

The news comes as the 54-year-old has been announced to lead another biopic. Domingo was announced as the actor taking on the stern role of Joe Jackson in the pending Michael Jackson biopic Michael. The film stars the King Of Pop’s real-life nephew, Jafaar Jackson, in the titular role. It is directed by Antoine Fuqua and produced by Graham King and GK Films.

“I’m excited to be a part of a film that explores both the complicated soul of the legendary Michael Jackson as well as his impact on music and culture as a global icon,” detailed Domingo.

Currently, Domingo is nominated for another historically-based project, Rustin. His portrayal of the Civil Rights leader Bayard Rustin earned the actor the first Oscar nomination of his career, as well as nominations at the Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards, and more." - Vibe.com
