Scope The Trailer To Gloria Gaynor's Stellar Documentary - 'Gloria Gaynor: I Will Survive' Out In Theaters Via Feb. 13.
"Gloria Gaynor's story will inspire women everywhere to never give up — and continue to bet on themselves. In a trailer for the singer's upcoming documentary titled Gloria Gaynor: I Will Survive, premiering exclusively with PEOPLE, Gaynor recounts how her hit song "I Will Survive" turned out to be an anthem for her life."For the last 40 years, I've been telling you 'I will survive,' but I never told you how," Gaynor, 80, said in the opening of the trailer. The film, which will hit theaters exclusively on Feb. 13, documents how Gaynor — who lived through serious hardship — rediscovered her faith and self-love. It also documents the making of her 2019 Gospel album Testimony, which went on to earn her a Grammy.Speaking to PEOPLE about the documentary, Gaynor says viewers should watch the film for inspiration."I want them to know how and why I survive, and that these elements of life, these uplifting, encouraging, inspiring, empowering elements of life are available to them as well," she says. She adds, "I found that the song 'I Will Survive' has been so encouraging and uplifting to so many people around the world, and it's the story of my life. So I thought, 'Let's give them a little more detail.'"The release date also happens to be Galentine's Day, which Gaynor says is all about "getting together and appreciating one another, which is a wonderful thing."In October, the singer-songwriter celebrated the 45th anniversary of her hit track. The classic disco anthem — which was originally the B-side to her single "Substitute," but became a major hit anyway thanks to radio play — has demonstrated its enduring popularity in a major way over the last year. In April, Harry Styles brought Lizzo on stage to sing it during his headlining Coachella set, and Miley Cyrus interpolates it in her current chart-topper "Flowers.""I have not only survived, I have thrived," Gaynor told PEOPLE in March. "I really think a lot of it has to do with the fact that whenever I'm going through something, I have used that song."" - People.com
