Byron Allen Presents 2nd Annual TheGrio Awards Set To Tribute Mariah Carey, Denzel Washington, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson & More.
"Byron Allen is gearing up to present the second annual TheGrio Awards, which will celebrate “icons, leaders and legends” representative of Black excellence.
Announced on Tuesday (Oct. 31), TheGrio Awards will be cohosted by The Talk‘s Sheryl Underwood and Comedian Roy Wood, Jr. The two-hour event will be held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif., and include appearances from honorees Mariah Carey, Don Cheadle, Misty Copeland, Dr. Kizzmekia S Corbett-Helaire, Tamron Hall, Kevin Hart, Steve Harvey, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Eddie Murphy, The Reverend Al Sharpton, and Denzel Washington.
The ceremony will also include special musical performances from Boyz II Men, Jennifer Hudson, Coco Jones, Patti LaBelle, and Smokey Robinson.
Byron Allen expressed his excitement ahead of TheGrio Awards and his hope to present strong, Black figures to younger generations in an attempt to instill cultural and ethnic pride. “I created ‘theGrio Awards’ to celebrate and amplify African-American excellence and the incredible champions from other communities who truly support us,” said Allen, Founder/Chairman/CEO of Allen Media Group.
“As a child, strong, positive African-American icons such as Berry Gordy, Jr., Rosa Parks, Muhammad Ali and Martin Luther King, Jr. helped me see myself differently, and changed the trajectory of my life. Celebrating and amplifying iconic individuals is something we can never do enough of, especially for our children.”
The individual honors and recipients that will be awarded throughout the show include The Music Icon Award (Mariah Carey), The Environmental Champion Icon Award (Don Cheadle), The Trailblazer Icon Award (Misty Copeland), The Science Icon Award (Doctor Kizzmekia S Corbett-Helaire), The Journalism Icon Award (Tamron Hall), The Comedy Icon Award (Kevin Hart), The Television Icon Award (Steve Harvey), The Inspirational Icon Award ( Dwayne ‘The Rock ‘ Johnson), The Icon Award (Eddie Murphy), The Justice Icon Award (The Reverend Al Sharpton), and The Film Icon Award (Denzel Washington).
TheGrio Awards is co-produced by Allen Media Group and Backhand Productions. Byron Allen, Carolyn Folks, Jennifer Lucas, Jeff Atlas, and Michelle Willrich are executive producers, while Greg Phillinganes serves as musical director, and DJ Kiss is the D.J. for the special event. The first TheGrio Awards took place in 2022 and honored Patti LaBelle, Queen Latifah and other iconic figures.
Byron Allen’s TheGrio Awards will air on Saturday, Nov. 25 at 8:00pm ET on the CBS Television Network and will be available to stream live on Paramount +. Paramount+ Premium subscribers will have access to stream live via the live feed of their local CBS affiliate." - Vibe.com
