After a chance run-in with It's Not You It's Me fav, the Australian alternative dance group Haiku Hands; at WeHo Pride where they performed earlier in the evening, we were ecstatic to be invited to their first headlining show here in Los Angeles!
The Electro, House, Hip-Hop three-threat consists of Mie Nakazawa, Claire Nakazawa, and Beatrice Lewis all hailing from the sunny skies of Australia. We first shared Haiku back in 2018 via our long-running Musique Digs Playlist with their tune "Not About You."
The night was electric as the infamous LA venue El Cid filled with diverse fans and the group hit the stage at about 11pm in the allegedly haunted flamenco hall where It's Not You Media regularly partied during the Electro-dance scene of the 00s.
At the start of the first track, we were surprised at the flow emitted, reminding us of early JJ Fad. The crowd also moved more than we expected as well, reminding us again of the 2000s with Gravy Train!!! or Le Tigre.
In synchronicity, the two Nakazawa sisters and Lewis traveled the intimate stage later marching into the audience, further winding up the impressive dancing crowd.
Backed by a Dj who we commend for the extra nightlife feel and look while the sample of Hard Drive's "Deep Inside" shadowed Haiku's own original dance tracks such as the new hard-hitting single "Ma Ruler."
We must commend Haiku Hands for a great night on the dancefloor, in a town where bottle service has taken over, and allowing the ghost of dancing's past to reignite the once vibrant indie dance scene.
No poem readings on this night out! Check out our exclusive videos and photos from Haiku Hands at El Cid below!
