Survivalist & All Around Talent, Jennette McCurdy & Her Memoir, ‘I’m Glad My Mother Died’ Named Goodreads Choice Winner After Staying On The New York Times Bestseller List For 17 Consecutive Weeks.

"Jennette McCurdy‘s book is getting a lot of positive attention. “I’m Glad My Mother Died” has stayed on the New York Times bestseller list for 17 consecutive weeks and was recently named a winner in the Goodreads Choice Awards.

The memoir, being noticed and talked about by many, takes a deep look into the “iCarly” star’s childhood struggles as an actor, dealing eating disorders and addiction and the trauma-filled relationship with her overbearing mother. It also takes a look at how she regained control of her life in an inspiring way.

The Goodreads Choice Awards highlights the best books of 2022 in 17 different categories. McCurdy‘s book won in the Memoir & Autobiography category with 202,606 votes. “Maybe the single biggest surprise success of the year, Jennette McCurdy’s funny and heartbreaking memoir chronicles her years as a child performer (iCarly) and her extremely complicated relationship with her mom. The book has been a massive success, with more than half a million shelvings on Goodreads and a runaway voting victory in this year’s memoir category,” the description reads on Goodreads website.

McCurdy posted the big news about her win in an Instagram Story, sharing Simon Books post. At the bottom of the post, she added her own thoughts, “Thank you to everyone who votes and made this happen. I am honored.”

The actress turned author recently spoke to students remotely at Virginia Commonwealth University on the topic of overcoming trauma and writing her bestselling book. She talked to them about her acting career and why she got into the industry. “There was some sort of pressure of just needing to do it for the family that I think helped me to almost eventually start to overcome the nerves because I knew that there was something bigger that I was working for,” she said. “But I never really loved it.”

She eventually walked away from acting and pursued writing as a career. “I don’t think success matters if you don’t feel connected to the thing you’re doing,” she told the students. “I don’t think money matters if you don’t believe in the thing you’re doing.”

McCurdy also discussed mental health awareness, as that is something she is passionate about. She explained that she wanted to describe eating disorders in a way that included some humor because when she was struggling, all she could find to read on the topic were self-help books.

According to the bio on McCurdy’s website, she’s working on her second book. “Jennette recently closed a deal to write her debut fiction novel, which will be released in 2024, and has also been honored as part of the 2022 TIME100 Next list, a compilation of emerging leaders from around the world who are shaping the future and defining the next generation of leadership,” her bio reads." -TheBlast.com
